Do you ever feel like you don't see enough Harley Quinn in comics?
Do you ever feel like you don't see enough Harley Quinn in the news?
Do you ever feel like you don't see enough Harley Quinn in the media?
Do you ever feel like you don't see enough Harley Quinn anywhere?
Well damn, son, you better start opening your eyes because she's already everywhere.
Anyway, there's one more comic containing Harley Quinn coming out soon and I wanted to blog about it because I think it'll actually be good.
I'm not talking about whatever fresh hell this is:
but rather this:
Yep, it's a prequel comic to the Batman and Harley Quinn movie that's coming out soon.
You'll notice I do still have concerns with this. With Harley Quinn's 25th anniversary and her name synonymous with dollar signs, they make sure that her movie gets a tie in comic instead of all the other like, fourteen or so Bat-jerks in the other animated movies.
Secondly - if there's a prequel comic.... does that mean that there's going to be things in the movie that aren't going to be explained unless you read it?
In saying that - it's classic Harley. A breath of fresh air compared to the schlock she is now.
There will be a five part digital prequel calling Harley Quinn and Batman that kicks off around July 31st, released bi-weekly. It will focus on Harley after the Joker and going on the straight and narrow. The movie itself will premiere around August 15th, after which the comic book will change it's name to Batman and Harley Quinn and become a sequel and a seven part anthology.
There will be a host of people contributing to this - Ty Templeton, Amanda Deibert, Jeff Parker, Craig Rousseau, Luciano Vecchio, David Hahn, Dario Brizuela, Matthew Dow Smith, and Sandy Jarrell to name a few, with Templeton being the primary artist.
I'm so glad that Palmiotti and Connor are no where to be seen on this initial list. I'm sure they'll pop up and 'contribute' some of their shitty 'talents' later on but I reeeealllly hope not. Heck, I'm surprised Paul Dini isn't mentioned on the list either, but considering how lame the Harley loves Joker segment has been and the fact that he's excited for a chance to put frickin' Hardly Quinn in Riverdale (another six part special to sell out on both titles) tells me he's a little bit rusty on the Quinn business.
It hurts me to say that because obviously he's so important to Harley's legacy.. but he's also throwing poop on it, like when he praised Maggot Robie, saying she 'nailed it' for her portrayal of Quinn in the world's worst movie version of anything.
They're already advertising solits for the collected trades, it's such a cash grab but I'm sold by Templeton's pure enthusiasm for this gig. So we'll check out the digital when it comes out and see if it lives up to the hype. Even if it doesn't, it's still going to be better than Hardly's monthly (mostly) solo.
