Injustice 2 - Issue 72

"Goodbye"
Aug 2018

Side note - this issue would have been tucked in with the rest of the shitepost of Injustice 2 however.... I got ahead of myself and didn't realise this series ended with this issue. Oops.

This one opens up on Alfred making a hard decision so early on we see him talking to the Kents via telephone. It's good to know that the Fortress of Solitude has cell reception. Alfred is the coolest butler ever... he's wrangled all the Robins/Batgirls, one of the few that can put Batman in his place, politely but firmly kick Superman's ass, knows all the superheroes and supervillains AND he buttles.

Usually pretty good, but he's been struggling a bit since his rebirth. Oh, snap, a DC pun.
Anyway, I like how the Kents and Alfred are so civil and all despite what their 'offspring' are up to.

Meanwhile, Grodd is taking back the town with a heaping of violence and mental manipulation.

Grodd successfully tells Deadshot not to shoot.. and without this core element of his nature, Deadshot crumbles apart like so many Marvel characters in Infinity War. Well, no, not really but he's pretty upset about not being able to shoot things.

There are worse things though.. at least he didn't get his head blown up like Man-bat. Or his son threatened like Solivar.

It's effective. Solivar trades his life for his sons and meets his end just as he was about to reveal what other sneaky shenanigans Grodd has embroiled himself into.

Speaking of cryptic - Bruce gets a call from Ra's Al Ghul. He's notified of this by Brother Eye, because Alexa/Siri are too mainstream. Like reading paperback novels or something. Brucie boy only reads philosophical works. Ra's makes a desperate attempt to warn him about Grodd but before he can get into the nitty gritty details.. Grodd makes a mental request.

Bit of a testament to inner strength that Ra's is able to get out a last plea to Batman before walking away to his doom. Which, coincidentally, is where Solivar's corpse still lies before Grodd on his usurped throne. Guess Grodd likes breathing in the aroma of blood or he just hasn't gotten the hang of psychic cleaning yet.

Bruce runs to find Alfred to let him know what the sitch is, and how it's really inconvenient that Alfred isn't on social media. I mean, do you have any idea how long the halls are in Wayne Manor?

I know what I'd be doing if I lived there.

To be fair, the Doctor runs a lot too.

Anyway, Bruce finds Alfred on his doorstep... facing the wrong way and with bags packed.

I'm so sad, but also so proud of Alfred leaving on his own terms.

The Short End of the Jester Schtick

Well the short end of THIS jester schtick is that obviously I bollocksed up along the way and instead of reviewing an issue involving Harley Quinn, I had to go and read this issue which had no Harley Quinn, nearly everyone died and Alfred left. I'm so sad and confused, like, why did I do this to myself and why did I make a huge thing about it instead of adding it to the other long post about Injustice 2 ALRIGHT IT'S BECAUSE I'M LAZY and stubborn and did I already say lazy? Fine, I'm wicked and I'm lazy.  And you're welcome.

Wotta Comedian!

Jon/Martha: It's been too long.
Alfred: I know. I'm sorry. I died.
Jon/Martha: Right. Well, that would do it.

Grodd: Kneel before Grodd.

Deadshot: You have to the count of three to turn your monkey butt around.

Boomerang: Ah... Floyd? You forgot what number comes next?
Deadshot: No.
