Injustice 2 - Issue 72

"Goodbye"
Aug 2018

Side note - this issue would have been tucked in with the rest of the shitepost of Injustice 2 however.... I got ahead of myself and didn't realise this series ended with this issue. Oops.

This one opens up on Alfred making a hard decision so early on we see him talking to the Kents via telephone. It's good to know that the Fortress of Solitude has cell reception. Alfred is the coolest butler ever... he's wrangled all the Robins/Batgirls, one of the few that can put Batman in his place, politely but firmly kick Superman's ass, knows all the superheroes and supervillains AND he buttles.

Usually pretty good, but he's been struggling a bit since his rebirth. Oh, snap, a DC pun.
Anyway, I like how the Kents and Alfred are so civil and all despite what their 'offspring' are up to.

Meanwhile, Grodd is taking back the town with a heaping of violence and mental manipulation.

Grodd successfully tells Deadshot not to shoot.. and without this core element of his nature, Deadshot crumbles apart like so many Marvel characters in Infinity War. Well, no, not really but he's pretty upset about not being able to shoot things.

There are worse things though.. at least he didn't get his head blown up like Man-bat. Or his son threatened like Solivar.

Injustice 2 - issues 60-71

Alright, I'll level with you. As exhausting and confusing as recapping Countdown was in a massive long shite-post... it was fairly effective. I've been wanting to get back into reviewing Injustice 2 for a while now, but I've been grappling with time issues, mental problems and the fact that I have no idea what I was up to issue wise that I literally didn't know where to start again.
So, I figured, I'll do something similar - run through the last eleven issues of Injustice 2, so I can start reviewing them in single posts closer to when they come out because I'll be fairly caught up by then.

Attack on Oa
Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Xermanico
Colours: J. Nanjan

Wow, all those starfish. All that rage. All that red and skintight clothes... reminds me of my last beach holiday. Siiiiigh.

Now here's the Titans and Booster Gold, stealing the Justice League's state of the art spaceship in their skintight clothes. Reminds me of my last space holiday. Siiiiigh.

Anyway, here's Starfire, Wonder Girl, Kon-El (as Superboy) with Booster Gold and his Skeets robot stealing the ride that Batman had. They haven't been able turn off the alarm, but Superboy notices another alarm. Booster said it's the proximity alert, but I think they should change the name to "Th' Main Man" alert.

For obvious reasons.

Remember back in this review? Harley Quinn convinced Lobo that he was wasting his time with her, enough so that Lobo then went to find someone worth his time - in this case, using Darkseid to put out his cigar - but before that, he had some beef with Superman. So that little throwback was cool.
Basically the Titans are chasing Blue Beetle who was kidnapped by Lobo, and Lobo's been hired by some dude in a crazy big chair to get Blue Beetle to save the world.

Lobo shoots a Kryptonite bullet at Superboy but Wonder Girl epically deflects it.

I mean, look at this!

I don't normally like the silver for the Wonder Women costumes but I don't mind it here.

Turns out chair guy is Metron - a New God that spends his existence messing with Skeets' logic programming. Starfire yells out the window 'Hey if you're so powerful, can you turn the spaceship alarm off??' and it works in both turning off the alarm and being a great icebreaker.

In the end they hitch a lift with Chair and Bike, off to stop the angry, angry space starfish from making all the green and blue weirdos angry as well

Digging Cassie's Artemis vibe here
They all wear space masks and I was like... guys... 99% sure you can all breathe in space.. then I was like, wait, face hugging anger stars! But then why does Superboy only have a half mask?
Why would they even have half face space masks? I mean... what?

Oh, hang on, I just read some comments. Apparently it's so they can all communicate through the whole no sound in space thing. THAT makes more sense.

Yet Even More Ugly Harley Quinn Merchandise!

DID I HEAR MY NAME????

You know, this kind of post could go on forever the way DC is milkin' the ever lovin' fudge out of their main pillar. You know, the female one. No, the one that's not from Themyscira and is actually worth building a pillar around.

So yes, I have managed to find even more merchandise for Harley Quinn - merchandise that only the most dedicated fan could stomach, and even then not without wincing or cringing away from it.

Firstly - do you even look back fondly on Harley Quinn's original Suicide Squad outfit? Do you like horribly paired colours? Do you enjoy wearing socks and sandals together?

Then these Harley Quinn tights could be for you!

I don't even know what you would wear this with or if you could even really wear shoes with them on? Is that a white diamond on the blue calf or is it just a dodgy design job?

They retail for about as much as your average knee high tights (read: way too much) and don't actually resemble her costume that much.

How can one pair of tights cause so many questions?

Otherwise, here are some that are inspired by the grungy, infection riddled prison tatts from the movie. Let the world know you're obsessed, draw like a child and can't spell 'secret!'

Injustice: Gods Amongst Us Year Five Annual

January 2017
Writer: Brian Buccellato
Artist: Mike S. Miller
Colours: J. Nanjan
Letters: Wes Abbott
Cover art: David Yardin

Secret tales of the final year! The only thing I don't like about this cover is the weird ripped crop top Harley Quinn's wearing. I know it's the Insurgence outfit from the Injustice game but it just doesn't seem to be meshing with the rest of her outfit. It's like she got up one day, coordinated the ever loving heck out of her outfit, like she really put some thought into it and was nailing it... but then the shirt that went with the outfit was in the wash and she couldn't wear it so she just grabbed some scrappy reject of a shirt and drew a smiley face on it saying 'yeah, that'll do.'

Which is just absurd to me. In my heart I know that it's just an excuse to show off her cleavage, midriff and show off her g-string and that pains me because this is the outfit she has chosen to wear into battle. I mean, her previous costume was pretty impractical but it seems like it was just her everyday outfit. This particular rag - the kind that you'd probably use to wash your car with and looks like it would tear irreparably after a light breeze.. is what she's chosen to fight in.

Did this in turn 'inspire' the shitty torn shirt from Suicide Squad or did they JUST steal it from Blondie? It's just weird.

Anyway - the actual comic features a few different stories from the perspective of different characters. The first one, and the one I'm going to be looking at is of course the Harley Quinn arc.

We open on her flashback - she's reflecting on the time that's passed since Superman went nuts. Look - I had problems with her original Injustice outfit when it was first shown but since then it's grown on me. It's unique and jestery and the character fits it well.

That said... this opening shot of her tits about to fall out and the fact that each one... is about as big as her head... plus the fact that her outfit would not offer ANY protection should there be an accident.

Hey, I cringe when I see dudes zip by on motorbikes wearing naught but flip flops, boardshorts and a T-shirt but this.. thinking of extreme gravel burn on boobies puts me in places I don't want my mind to go, DC!
\

That said, it's a nice page, the Gotham cityscape looks fantastic, the headlight is well done as while she drives along stoic as heck you see a wide array of emotions over her flash backs.

Injustice: Gods Amongst Us Annual #1

Injustice: Gods Among Us Annual #1
'Contract on Harley Quinn'
2014
Writer: Tom Taylor
Artists: .... a lot

Seeing as how I look to Injustice Harley Quinn as my ever green source of joy in a world consumed with showing me ever-ridiculous Hardly Quinns... I thought it prudent that I review one of my favourite Injustice issues ever.

No, not this fan pandering piece of shit, an actual good comic!

So it's called the Hunt for Harley Quinn and it opens with-

NO. NO! GOSH PLEASE NO. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Injustice - Ground Zero ch 11 Review

Black Hearts Part 1

Plot: Brian Buccellato
Script: Christopher Sebela
Art: Marco Santucci
Colours: J. Nanjan
Letters: Wes Abbott
Cover: Renato Guedes
Assistant Editor: Rob Levin
Editor: Jim Chadwick

Release date: Dec 2016

Opening up with Harley in her getaway present Batmobile with Shazam in the passenger seat, harassing Oracle/Batgirl/Barbara Gordon. That Fwunk sound is not Harley's questionable driving skills (we've all seen the animated series!) but rather Black Adam landing on the car, in search of Batman and finding our favourite jester instead.

They exchange pleasantries before Black Adam declares he doesn't like Harley, and attacks.

I like this little dialogue. Everyone else in this comic who uses the pills only really discusses their use in combat, or how much stock they have. Harley tells us just how much they mean to her - it's not the power as such - but more the confidence boost. Which probably explains why this Harley is so much more awesome than her other incarnations, as well as being a hell of a lot more relatable/likeable.

Meanwhile, back at Wayne Manor the super friends are discussing their battle - which apparently ended in between scenes?
The Green Arrow in this series is also hilarious.

Injustice - Ground Zero Ch 10 review

Muscle Car pt 2

Plot: Brian Buccellato
Script: Christopher Sebela
Art: Jheremy Raapack
Colours: J. Nanjan and Mark Roberts
Letters: Wes Abbott
Cover: Renato Guedes
Assistant Editor: Rob Levin
Editor: Jim Chadwick

Release date: Dec 2016

I think I've mentioned before how awesome I think the Harley Quinn is in the Injustice comic series.
I think I've mentioned before how I don't understand how other series (namely her own and Suicide Squad) can't get her right.

Anyway, this issue picks up where the last one left off (obviously) with Harley narrating her own story alongside what Batman was doing.
Batman was taking a bunch of alternate universe version of Wonder Woman, Green Arrow etc. off to Wayne Manor to find a super friends weapon, which of course Harley has beaten them all to in getting to the location where it's housed.

Classic Quinn comedy - dramatic entry, Silence of the Lambs reference, parking joke, and a gaming pun - while kidnapping Shazam.

Injustice 2: Harley Quinn

Injustice: 2 is set to be released in 2017, so you know what that means!
Thaaaat's right! You can already pre-order your Harley Quinn collectable.

I only saw this today, but I was aware of the game imagery earlier this month and it is beautiful.
IMHO - This is the kind of thing they should have had Harley wear in Suicide Squad.

Not only is it street smart, it's in her classic colours (well, mostly - her hair's two tone pink and blue but at least she didn't do her eye make-up in the dark) it's not a torn up crappy tee-shirt like the Injustice insurgent outfit or the movie "costume" and it looks fantastic!

The game touts that every playable character is able to be custom designed, which is nice. As you can see in the below gif, this could include short shorts with garters if you really think you need it but also a sweet jester headpiece.

The Injustice of Harley Quinn's costumes

For those who haven't been paying attention,
Oh, just like the people who made this train wreck!
This morning while mooching off some free Wi-Fi, I come across a news article about an alternate costume for Harley Quinn in the Injustice: Gods among us game.

To be completely honest, I wasn't sure if I wanted to click the link. I mean, Harley Quinn, massive fan favourite with a costume that made sense to her character and her name - has suffered greatly at the hands of game developers and DC  New 52 'artists' who assume that a re-model has to be WORSE than the original, as well as trashy and un-clownlike.
Why, hello there!

MASSIVE CUPCAKES!
HELL YEAH!!!
This is not to say that Harley can never have a new outfit ever - alternate outfits and disguises through out the DC universe have worked wonderfully for her. There was the alternate universe Harley in her Thrillkiller outfit, the gal-in-waiting from Emperor Joker, every new day in Gotham City Sirens.. the Ame-comi series of figurines.. um, this monkey of death thingy.. -->

Even if they were a little weird, we knew it was only for this issue/TPB and then things would be back to normal.
