New Harley Quinn flips off fans.. again!

This just in - oh, hang on, this is old news.

Anyway, with the 'New' 52 series DC seems intent on publishing all the time, history has been re-written, costumes have been muddled, previously prominent characters are now either in the shadows or missing entirely, and frankly the story lines suck. Which brings me to the Harley Quinn New 52 statue.

Does anyone else think this looks like she just stepped on a rake?

Here she is.. the one dubbed 'Hardly Quinn.' When the character revamp debuted, fans over the world were outraged and disappointed. That isn't to say it's hated by all, but it's not our Harley and DC cared not what the fans thought. You know, the fans who supported Harley and saw her leap from the animated show to mainstream comics. Whose collectibles are constantly the most expensive AND hard to find, even now.

The costume is juggalo whore, frankly. No gymnast of Harley's skill would ever think to wear a ridiculous corset to do her work. The stupid cape and ruffled neck piece (which, appears to be trying to strangle her in this figure - perhaps out of shame) and thigh high sock thingies with what look like nurses shoes? Best of all, she hasn't even got red and black. Most inkers put her in blue or purpley tones with red.

Her skin tone, which doesn't look as pale as it's meant to be here is a cheap plot device linking her to the Joker, basically that he made her (Really Joker? You want to be responsible for that hair do?) Her eyes... well, we haven't really got a good explanation for that yet. The comic has her skanking around with a similarly stupid Deadshot clone and going for the tried and true split personality sob story. Many elements of her 'shocking' new New 52 history are stolen from her original history - you know, the one that never existed?

So then, why is she grinding up her classic costume?

'What's that? I can't hear you over the grinding and gnashing of fan teeth!'

This, to me is the biggest middle finger that DC could have done. They've copped a lot of flack over the new 52, in particular from reducing the amount of creative women staff and making big deals about de-skanking super heroines then making most of them eye candy bed buddies or bit parters with nothing relevant to do, or, hey, both. All, if not most of this flack has been brought on by themselves, or by Didio single-handedly.

(Want to see more women in comics? Think you can do better? Submit your samples now! Oh wait, we don't take samples.... herp derp derpity derp!)

PICTURED: Censored version of DC mooning us.

I collect all manner of Harley Quinn comics and collectibles. I paid for issue one of Suicide Squad.. and that was it. Open mindedness failed there. So even though I have everything else of Harley-ness, this is one item I will never buy.

Maybe I would have if it was just her standing there. The statue itself is kind of cute, and let's face it, a thousand times better than the lame comic book art of the same 'character'.  But not like this, not destroying the costume that made her a fan favourite and the one that will continue to sell like hotcakes while your Hardly Quinn stagnates and delivers shoddy lines.
